Flathead Basin Co-management Plan 2001-2010
The new Flathead Lake and River Fisheries Co-management Plan sets the management direction for the period 2001 to 2010. The plan addresses the fisheries of Flathead Lake, the Flathead River and its tributaries upstream to its forks, the Swan River downstream from Bigfork Dam, the South Fork Flathead River downstream from Hungry Horse Dam, the Middle Fork and tributaries and the North Fork and tributaries upstream to the Canadian Border.
Goals included in the co-management plan include:
Increasing and protecting native trout populations (bull trout and westslope cutthroat trout).
Balancing tradeoffs between native species conservation and non-native species reduction to maintain a viable recreational/subsistence fishery.
Protecting the high quality water and habitat characteristics of Flathead Lake and its watershed.
