Quartz Creek Barrier

Quartz Creek Fish Exclusion Barrier Project

Quartz Lake in Glacier National Park was the largest Bull Trout lake in the Columbia River Basin with an intact native fish community uncompromised by nonnative species.

In 2005, the USFWS discovered nonnative Lake Trout in Quartz Lake upstream of the existing fish barrier. Flathead Valley Trout Unlimited along with the National Park Service and USGS provided funding for an assessment of the current fish barrier. The goal is to exclude the possibility of further intrusion by Lake Trout in order to facilitate removal or control of this invasive species in Quartz Lake. River Design Group presented their conceptual design alternatives report in January 2009 outlining three possible redesign alternatives. Read the PDF report here

2008 Revegetation

Egan Slough Re-vegetation Project April, 2008

Members assisted the MTFWP and a private contractor in preparing planting beds around Egan Slough. Native plants were supplied and planted in the beds and the beds were fenced to keep wildlife out until the plants are established. The plantings should improve wildlife habitat and improve streambank stability.
